Feed the Fight

Support Front Line Workers, Community Members and Local Restaurants

Front line medical staff, first responders and countless others are working tirelessly in the battle against COVID-19. Food banks are overwhelmed with surges in demand. Restaurants are fighting the crisis in a different way, struggling to stay in business during quarantine. Let's do something about it.

TastePro is supporting healthcare workers and first responders with fresh meals to keep spirits up and thank them for their service. We're also donating to food banks, so they can provide ready-to-eat meals for at-risk seniors unable to cook for themselves. We’re purchasing these meals from local restaurants, so they can continue to pay their staff and stay financially healthy during the COVID-19 crisis.

Here's How it Works

1. Contribution

Select the neighborhood and restaurant(s) you’d like to support.

2. Delivery

We’ll orders meals from each restaurant, which then go to one of our partnering recipients. We're in full compliance with all CDC requests.

3. Gratitude

We’ll confirm your contribution with photos, thank-you notes and anything else we collect during our visit!

Why Are We Doing This?

Under normal circumstances, TastePro is a company dedicated to creating phenomenal food experiences. Tagged as The Best Way to Try New Restaurants, we allow people to create custom, self-guided food tours. We launched in early March, just before COVID-19 forced restaurants to shut down.

With our operations suspended, we wanted to redirect our resources in a way that could make a positive impact during this crisis. We created Feed the Fight as a tool to support our restaurant partners while feeding those who need a fresh meal more than anyone else.

We retrofitted our website to for Feed the Fight, so please excuse any references to booking a food tour during the contribution process. It's also important to know that TastePro is not a nonprofit organization, but 100% of each contribution goes toward fresh meals for our partners. We didn't anticipate a crisis like this happening and redirecting our resources in this way, but as Teddy Roosevelt once said, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." We hope that the COVID-19 pandemic will be long over by the time it would otherwise take us to get approved for a formal 501(c)3 branch of our company.

We're eager for this crisis to be behind us and for our guests to explore restaurants soon, but to get there quicker we have to play our part now. Whether it's making a contribution or sharing this page with your network, thank you for supporting Feed the Fight.

"To whoever contributed to the dinners donated to Scripps La Jolla tonight - thank you! I can’t describe what a blessing it is to not have to prepare, cook, and clean up dinner after a long shift.

This is hands down the most delicious meal I’ve had in weeks and the time you all saved me means I’ll get extra sleep before my next shift in the morning. Thank you so much for what you do and for being so generous!"

Katie

A pregnant ICU nurse who is VERY grateful for food and extra sleep these days :)

"To be able to make food for doctors, nurses and staff on the front line today was an amazing experience. It was an honor and I was so proud and excited to have had this opportunity.

Also, the benefit of being paid to do this after my restaurant closed for almost a month is a big help. Both Elixir and Americana are looking forward to making more food for Feed the Fight."

Randy Gruber

Owner,  Americana Restaurant and Elixir Juice & Food, Del Mar

FAQ's

What is TastePro and Feed the Fight?

When the world isn't on lockdown, TastePro is a service for people to create custom, self-guided food tours. Labeled as "The Best Way to Try New Restaurants," TastePro lets people visit multiple restaurants, one after another, and try the best of each place at a fraction of the price.

Since people aren't dining out right now, we decided to redirect our operations in a way that makes a positive impact in our community. Feed the Fight brings food from local restaurants into emergency rooms (ER's) and intensive care units (ICU's), as well as local food banks. It's not exactly the type of food tour we're used to creating, but with front line staff struggling through mentally and physically taxing shifts, people going hungry and restaurants struggling to keep their doors open, Feed the Fight is the bridge that links these issues and provides support for all of them.

How does Feed the Fight work and how can I help?

Simply put, Feed the Fight provides free, fresh meals from multiple restaurants to medical staff on the front lines of COVID-19. These meals are paid for by generous contributions from the TastePro community and others looking to make a difference. Here's how you can help:

  1. Go to the Make a Contribution page.
  2. Select a dollar amount to contribute, then a neighborhood and restaurants within that neighborhood where you'd like that contribution to go.
  3. We'll use your contribution to purchase meals from your selected restaurant(s), where in many cases we have partnership discounts to ensure that each dollar goes as far as possible.
  4. A member of our team picks up the food from each restaurant and delivers it to one of our recipients on a regular basis, where we follow their safety protocols to minimize contact and ensure the safety of medical staff as well as our delivery staff.
  5. Doctors, nurses, technicians and other front line staff, as well as at-risk seniors, will enjoy a meal that fills their stomach and lifts their spirits.
  6. We'll follow up with you to share photos, thank-you's and anything else we receive from the medical center.

So there's no time commitment?

No, there's no time commitment. All you need to do is make a contribution and we'll take care of ordering and delivering the food.

If you'd still like to volunteer in another capacity, you're welcome to do so by contacting us at Info@GoTastePro.com.

You can also help the cause by sharing this campaign with your network, via email and social media.

Can I volunteer?

Yes, we are extremely appreciative of any volunteers located in San Diego. At the moment, we're in need of delivery drivers to transport food from restaurants to partner hospitals. Volunteers will be receive a generous gift of TastePro credit for their service.

Please email us at Info@GoTastePro.com to volunteer for Feed the Fight.

You can also help the cause by sharing this campaign with your network, via email and social media.

Can you add another hospital or service center to this program?

Yes, we welcome additional recipients to Feed the Fight. Email us at Info@GoTastePro.com to with the name, email and/or phone number of a point of contact for the place you'd like us to add.

While we're based in Southern California, we can work with other regions as well.

Can you add new restaurants and/or a new neighborhood to Feed the Fight?

Absolutely! We're eager to expand the program's outreach and seek to benefit as many local businesses and neighborhoods as possible. Email us at Info@GoTastePro.com with the name, email and/or phone number of a point of contact for any restaurant(s) you'd like us to add.

While we're based in Southern California, we can work with other regions as well.

Can I select restaurants in multiple neighborhoods?

You'll only be able to select restaurants in one neighborhood. If you'd like to contribute to more than one neighborhood, we recommend splitting up your contribution into several smaller transactions.

For example, if you'd like to contribute $500 to restaurants in Del Mar and Encinitas, you can make a $250 contribution to select restaurants in Del Mar, then repeat the process for a $250 contribution in Encinitas.

Does TastePro profit from this?

TastePro does not profit from the Feed the Fight program. 100% of your contribution goes toward fresh restaurant meals, which includes third-party payment processing fees as well as delivery costs when applicable.

Are these contributions tax-deductible?

Contributions are not tax-deductible, unfortunately. TastePro was not designed to be a 501(c)3 nonprofit; we created the Feed the Fight program in a very short time to do as much good for the community as possible while our standard operations are suspended. The COVID-19 crisis would [hopefully] be long over by the time we'd otherwise be able to establish a formal nonprofit arm of the company.

100% of every contribution goes toward fresh restaurant meals for front line healthcare workers and others in need during the COVID-19 crisis.

If you'd like to make a tax-deductible contribution, we encourage you to donate to Fuel the Front Line, a similar organization operated by the Del Mar Village Association.
